PROJECT COORDINATOR

Prof Nenibarini Zabbey is a foremost and renowned Ogoni expert on hydrobiology and has extensive experience and background on remediation-related activities with bias in bio-monitoring and restoration ecology.

“Until his appointment, he was a Senior lecturer at the Department of Fisheries Faculty of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt. He is the first African recipient of the Association of the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography 2022 Ruth Patrick Award for research and engagement with a critical impact on the recovery of the Niger Delta ecosystem from oil spills and environmental justice for affected communities.”

 

Zabbey, before his appointment, has offered community services which include environmental consultancy and working with civil society and nongovernmental organizations to conserve and restore biodiversity.

The PCO is headed by the Project Coordinator and it is made up of two directorates and fifteen (15) Units:

FUNCTIONS OF THE PROJECT COORDINATION OFFICE

  • Provide leadership and requisite supervision to ensure the successful implementation of the UNEP report recommendations as specified in the Gazette.
  • Accountable for overall delivery and implementation of the UNEP Report including annual plans, delivery by contractors/consultants and within agreed budget, project activities.
  • Develops project plan and budget provisions for the implementation of the UNEP Report recommendations.
  • Supervise contractors/consultants to ensure timely and qualitative project delivery.
  • Provides periodic risk and project update to the Governing Council and the Board of Trustees.
  • Maintains repository of all project documents. Ensures compliance with existing applicable laws and Governance/control framework.
  • Manages and execute all aspects of contracting relations under the highest standards of integrity and ethical behaviour and compliance with all laws and regulations
  • Ensure proper contract documentation.
  • Applies transparent and impartial procedures in the selection of contractors and management of contract.
  • Develops Strategic Communication Plans, executes approved Communications plans and manages communication with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure that Procurement Tendering Process are in line with the Public Procurement Act, 2007 and consistent with international best practice.
  • Manages and execute all aspects of contracting relations under the highest standard of integrity and ethical behaviour and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
