PROVISION OF POTABLE WATER
UNEP recommended the provision of potable water for impacted communities of Ogoniland. HYPREP has gone ahead to award contracts to companies for the rehabilitation and construction of new water schemes. The water schemes complete with treatment plants, power plants and other facilities are reticulated to communities. The water projects come with a sustainability package where the contractors upon completion of the water scheme are to manage them for a period of one year and HYPREP for another two years, during which time personnel from the communities will be trained to take over the management of the scheme.
The batch one water project which includes the rehabilitation of some existing water schemes and construction of fresh facilities cover 29 communities, some of which are Bori/kpean, Barako/B-Dere, Terabor, Korokoro/Nonwa, Alesa, Agbonchia, Alode, Aleto, Ebubu/Nsisioken/Ogale across the four (4) LGAs (Eleme, Tai, Khana and Gokana).
The batch two water project whose kick-off held on June 7th 2023 comprises 14 lots covering 71 communities some of which are Buan, Kono, Kwawa, Ewee, Bane, Bodo, Bomu, Deeyor, Deken, Nwebiara, Barayira, Sime, Bara-ale, Norkpo, Koroma, Onne, Eteo across the four (4) LGAs (Eleme, Tai, Khana and Gokana).
HYPREP has commissioned the water project in Alesa, Barako, Terabor, Korokoro, Ebubu and Kpean.
