The HYPREP 2024 Retreat for Senior Executives of the Project has ended in Port Harcourt with a charge on participants to be focused and mindful of its core mandates and be committed to their actualization.
In his remarks at the retreat with the theme, ” Leadership and Management Skills for Senior Executives”, Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey stated thus:
” we have a joint mandate to restore the hydrocarbon-impacted Ogoni environment, restore the people’s livelihood, improve the quality of life and build sustainable structures for peace and stability in the region. With unity and common focus, we can maintain project timelines and the impact we seek and are mandated to achieve. Let this retreat remind us that our strength lies in solidarity and togetherness”
Professor Zabbey, while assuring of management’s commitment to continue to provide a conducive work environment, hinted of a proposed framework to reward outstanding staff on the Project. He, however, cautioned that the Project will not tolerate inappropriate or unethical behaviour such as insubordination, lateness, truancy, lousiness and unwholesome relationship with Project contractors.
He expressed confidence that the Project will surmount the challenges confronting it-the court cases, protests and threats of further unfounded protests, malicious radio and TV broadcasts, theft on site, denial of access to sites, petitions among others, adding that through collective efforts and a constant review of its governance framework and stakeholder engagement strategies, the Project will overcome them for the common good of the people of Ogoni.
The retreat which was facilitated by the Port Harcourt School of Management and Economics featured lectures on Advanced Leadership Skills/Team Building, Administrative Procedures/ Change Management, Time Management, Time and Energy Management among others.
