We have carried out three broad based sensitizations to the people of Ogoni:
i.Media Sensitization– On assumption of office, we visited and made appearances on several stations to bring the people up to speed with our activities.
ii. Community Sensitizationii.Community Sensitization
We did not limit our sensitization to the mass media. We have gone to the impacted communities and carried out initial sensitization of the Ogoni leaders, women and youths representatives. So far, we have visited Bodo, K-Dere, Ogale, Ebubu, Korokoro, Ueken and Kpor communities where about 3,000 people have been sensitized.
iii. Ogoni Stakeholders’ Meeting.
This was held on 1st July, 2017 and had in attendance traditional rulers, political representatives of the people, academics, business men, religious leaders and representatives of the Movement of the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP. They offered suggestions on the way forward for the Cleanup project.
SENSITIZATION VISIT TO B-DERE, GOKANA LGA
On Thursday 9th November, 2017, HYPREP Team led by the Head of Communications was in B-Dere community to create awareness and also solicit support for the Cleanup project.
VISIT BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE MEMBERS ON ENVIRONMENT AND HABITAT
On Monday 16th October 2017, the House Committee Members on Environment and Habitat, led by the Chairman, Mr. Obinna Chidoka visited the Project Coordination Office (PCO) where they were briefed by the Project Coordinator, Dr. Dekil on the activities and achievements of the PCO in the implementation of the project.
The team also visited one of the impacted sites in Abue, Korokoro in Tai LGA where some prospective companies were on site demonstrating their remediation technologies.
The Law Makers were delighted with what they saw on site. They however, called for a fast-track of the process so that the full remediation of Ogoniland could commence as soon as possible and the restoration of livelihoods.
GOVERNING COUNCIL MEETING
The 5th Meeting of the Governing Council was held on the 5th and 6th October, 2017 in Abuja where issues pertaining to the project implementation including demonstration of remediation technologies, budget and staffing were discussed.
